About Washington & Jefferson College

Washington & Jefferson College, also referred to as W & J College or W&J, is a private liberal arts college in Washington, which is a city in the US state of Pennsylvania, serving as the county seat of Washington County, with a population estimated at a number of more than 15 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census.

The college was established in 1781, which makes it one of the oldest colleges in America. It offers its students majors, minors, pre-professional and special programs, in various areas of study, its mission being `to graduate men and women of uncommon integrity, competence, and maturity who are effective lifelong learners and responsible citizens, and who are prepared to contribute substantially to the world in which they live.`

Athletics

W&J's athletic teams are known as the Presidents and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are red and black.
